Green Dirt Farm is a small sheep dairy located just outside of Weston on the picturesque bluffs above the Missouri River.  This working farm produces farmstead sheep's milk cheeses, yogurt and 100% grass-fed lamb.  Green Dirt Farm holds to the tradition of community-based farms where customers can know how their food was produced, and who produced it.

Green Dirt Farm's Principles:

• We are firmly committed to the idea that a foundation of healthy living soil is the key to growing nutritious grass, happy animals, and satisfied customers.
• We do not use pesticides or herbicides on our pastures; or hormones or unnecessary antibiotics in raising our animals.  Antibiotics are only used when necessary to treat sick animals.
• We protect our grasses from overgrazing by rotating the sheep to fresh grass every day.
• We actively promote the return of diverse and indigenous, soil-building plant species to our pastures.
• We have and use numerous renewable energy sources on the farm, including passive solar, active solar, wind electricity generation and solar hot water.
• We built our farm with state-of-the-art efficiency that helps to conserve resources and protects our water shed.
• We believe that our customers have the right to know everything about what goes into their food and how it was produced.

McCormick is the oldest distillery in the United States operating at it original site. In 1976, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. Lewis and Clark discovered natural limestone springs in the rolling hills of Missouri. By 1830 these pure springs were supplying water to wagon trains heading west. Years later Ben Holladay saw these limestone springs as the ingredient for great whiskey needed to supply the vast number of wagon trains passing through Weston desiring good whiskey. In 1856 he started his distillery. The tours at the distillery were discontinued in 1995.

The McCormick Country Store was relocated to Main Street and sells all McCormick products and gift items; a 25¢ sample bar for customers over 21 years of age.

Silk Tapestries
A National Treasure

On exhibit on a rotating basis over 300 masterworks of French silk tapestry based on works by major artists primarily of the 19th and 20th century. Museum has one educational gallery, four exhibit galleries and a art library featuring the Grove Art Dictionary. This is the most important and extensive exhibition of woven silk tapestry ever shown in the world.

These tapestries are considered the most beautiful tapestries in existence.

Silk tapestries is the art form of weaving silk textiles producing pictures and images. Silk tapestries have remained popular because of their three dimensional characteristics and intricate weaving. They are truly timeless works of art. Tiny changes in temperature and humidity in a room can cause the tapestries to shrink or expand from hour to hour, from minute to minute. It is as if the tapestries appear to breathe, expanding, contracting and shifting. The threads twist and rotate restlessly. The threads relax, the loops move and change. There is a luminosity and depth of field on them. Obviously photography can neither reflect
the beauty and sheen of pure silk nor the impression of three dimension. Then there is a solace in their beauty and one
can stare at them in pure amazement.

Reopened in December of 2005 by long-time friends and avid brewers, Michael Coakley and Corey Weinfurt, the Weston Brewing Company boasts a modern 24-barrel brewing system capable of producing 20,000 kegs of beer annually.

Their flagship beer, O’Malley’s Irish Cream Ale, carries on the tradition of brewing in historic Weston that began 164 years ago.

The Weston Brewing Company was first established in 1842 by German immigrant, John Georgian, and was one of the first lager beer breweries in the U.S.  Five arched, limestone cellars, dug to a depth of 55 feet below ground, were constructed to create the ideal conditions for Georgian’s lager beer which needed to be stored below 60 degrees for more than six weeks.  The brewery’s 20 employees produced 12,000 barrels of Pale Lager annually.

Upon Georgian’s death in 1857 the brewery continued in various states of ownership and production until 1901 when a new corporation was formed called the Royal Brewing Company of Kansas City.  A branch office was established at 1111-1114 Grand Avenue in Kansas City, Mo.  Promoted as the “oldest brewery west of the Hudson River”, the brewery was the largest manufacturing plant in Platte County, producing 20,000 barrels a year.  Popular brands included Royal Pilsner, advertised as "the beer that made Milwaukee jealous"; Rip Van Winkle, "the world’s richest bottle of beer"; and Vivatone, “a family beverage for all ailments”.

The brewery closed in 1919, when prohibition, otherwise known as "the great experiment," was signed into law.
